Electrotherapy Modalities Treatments
Electrophysical agents are utilised to bring about physiological effects, and it is these changes that bring about the therapeutic benefits. Electrotherapy treats chronic pain, musculoskeletal injuries, muscle wasting, and nerve pain by using targeted and controlled electrical stimulation.
At Resilient Healthcare Walsall Clinic, we use different electrotherapy modalities:
Ultrasound: high-frequency sound waves are used to help the self-healing process by increasing blood circulation and cell activity. It can be used to treat ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joints. A gel is applied to the skin to make the contact between the treatment head and the body more effective.
Interferential therapy uses a medium-frequency current for the treatment of pain, muscle spasms, and sprains, to increase local blood flow, and to reduce oedema. In some cases, TENS machines can be recommended for the self-management of pain at home.
Physiotherapy helps to regain, maintain and improve normal activities when it is affected by injury, pain, illness or disability. Physiotherapist can undertake an extensive subjective assessment, physical examination, investigation referrals, diagnosis, medication prescription, joint injections, patient education, health promotion, management, prognosis, disease prevention, physical intervention, rehabilitation andlead chronic pain management program. Physiotherapy management includes prescription of specific exercises, manual therapy, manipulation, soft tissue massage, deep tissue massage, sports massage, use of electrotherapy modalities such as Ultrasound therapy, Interferential Therapy (IFT), Shockwave Therapy, hot and cold therapy and Laser therapy.
